Day Care

Home daycare insurance is designed to protect the business owner and the children or clients that are being cared for in the home. A policy should be considered as one of the monthly business expenses and should be part of a primary budget. Putting a budget together that includes this expense before opening doors is good business advise. Researching different insurance policies can help care providers determine what their business and security needs are and what company policies to investigate.

Many daycare owners that run businesses out of their homes assume that their homeowner's insurance policy covers everything associated with the business. But, with a little research, and reviewing of a homeowner's policy, the owners will find that the standard homeowners policy will most likely exclude daycare centers. Before getting home day care insurance, or assuming that there is coverage already established, owners should thoroughly review the current homeowner's policy on the home hosting the business. Also, business owners may want to check out the official insurance website for the state in which they reside, finding legal guidelines for all types of home-based businesses.

Daycare operations require a much broader range of coverage than a standard home policy is often willing to provide coverage for. In fact, some home insurance carriers may cancel a home policy if a daycare is operated out of the home. Others will have a restriction as to how many children can be in the home in order to provide coverage on the standard home policy.

As a daycare owner you are entrusted with the most prized possession anyone can place in your care, their children. Your policy serves as one of the key protectors of those children. Some areas of coverage to consider are: Abduction, Professional Liability, Abuse and Molestation, General Liability, Loss of Income, Commercial and Personal Auto, Umbrella, Property. As a requirement of insurance, you will have to be a licensed daycare meeting your State requirements for safety.
